Searching for Serotonin addresses a major transformation of self and is a coming-of-age story about an overachiever persevering through hardship routed in adverse childhood experiences.
This book may resonate with you if you are like Mali Millie and the “more than 60 percent of adults [who reported having] had at least one adverse childhood experience (ACE), and almost 25 percent [reported having] three or more.”[1] (Merrick, et al, 2018) ACEs included, but are not limited to experiencing abuse, violence, or neglect, substance abuse issues, witnessing a family member attempt or die by suicide, and the presence of instability due to parental separation or household members being incarcerated. This is an image taken after the successful execution of the 2019 Domestic Violence Awareness Event partnered between the DC Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and the DC Department of Forensic Sciences. I hand carved silhouette figures as well as other not just in this image. I then researched statistics surrounding the variety of images that displayed a detail about domestic violence and made the event interactive by them on these figures.
